Family Support

Judevine Center for Autism provides a variety of services to respond to the unique needs of each family. Family Support Services provide programs that help families cope with stress while providing the continuity of care that their child may have received at Judevine. Family Support Services are focused on listening to the family and responding appropriately to their particular needs.

Family Centered Support
Judevine Center for Autism offers in-home family support for any age person with autism spectrum disorder. A Judevine specialist works in the home to understand particular family needs and then responds to the family’s concerns with issue-specific behavior training, personal futures’ planning, advocacy and referral.

Supportive Respite
Supportive Respite provides emergency or scheduled in-home support for families who are unable to use existing respite services, or who are unable to use providers because of the severity of their child’s behavior. Judevine Center for Autism matches families with specially trained, compatible service providers who come into the home while the family is present or while they are away to care for the family member with autism spectrum disorder.

Supported Recreation
The Judevine philosophy centers on the belief that most individuals with autism spectrum disorders can live, work, and play in their natural communities if properly supported. This program makes community recreation services available to persons with autism spectrum disorders by matching them with Judevine service providers.

Natural Support Workshops
Often family, friends, and co-workers want to help, but they don’t feel they “know enough” to adequately support the family who has a child with an autism spectrum disorder. Natural Support Workshops are designed to provide these “natural supports” with a broad understanding of the issues involved with having a family member with autism as well as to offer strategies with which to provide support to the family.

Support Groups
Judevine Center for Autism conducts two types of support groups for families: one which enables families to share their experiences with others who have similar experiences, and the other to help siblings work through issues they may experience in their relationship with a brother or sister with autism spectrum disorder. The support groups are opportunities for parents and children to know that they are not alone with the disability, and that there are answers. The goal is twofold: to be professionally therapeutic so that we provide a safe place to express feelings, hurts and pressures with trained staff present as facilitators, and to have a place for family members to share experiences, discuss issues and explore solutions.
